USS Hornet Museum

USS Hornet is an aircraft carrier. It took 16 months to built this ship.
Twenty five percent of the people who built this ship were women.
Hornet's first mission was in 1942.
She fought in World War II and she also recovered Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 capsules.

This is how we entered the ship.

When we came inside the ship, there was a place where we watched a short film about USS Hornet.
This is inside the ship. We saw a lot of airplanes. One of them looked like a shark!

Look at the size of the chain! This chain is connected to the anchor of the ship.

We saw some uniforms.

This was the kitchen.  It is BIGGGGG.

This was where the people on the ship used to eat.
Some of the people who used to be here are still alive.

This was where they used to sleep on the ship. There were a lot of beds.

We also went to the Bridge. A bridge is a room on the ship where they control the ship.

There I was, sitting on the captain's chair.

This man was our guide. He let me sit on the captain's chair. He said, "The captain is not on board. So, can somebody replace him?"

Then we went to the flight deck. It was so windy. We could see San Francisco from here.

The Apollo 11 Mission

Did you know that when Neil Armstrong came down from the Moon,
President Nixon was watching him from the USS Hornet?

This is the Apollo 11 capsule!

You can see that there are 3 seats inside. One is for Neil Armstrong. One is for Buzz Aldrin. And the other one is for Michael Collins.

Neil Armstrong's seat!

This is Neil Armstrong.

It was fun visiting USS Hornet. I wish my mom were there too. (She was in Thailand)

FALL 2014

Fall is cold and windy.
But we like fall because we carve pumpkins, dress up in costumes, and go trick or treating.

Carving our first pumpkin

Carving pumpkin is dirty but fun. First, we went to a pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkin.

There was a pumpkin patch near our home, so we went there. They had one giant pumpkin there but we didn't buy it. It was too big.

There were so many to choose but we picked this one!

Before we carved, we had to draw the face.

My mom carved the face for us.

After we carved, it looked like this! We also roasted the pumpkin seeds. They were delicious.

We learned that once we carved the pumpkin, a few days later the pumpkin got bad.

Like THIS!! Ewwwwww....

EWWWWWWW!!!!

Getting costumes

It was very hard to pick the right costume because there were sooooo many to choose from.
At the end, I picked Princess Aurora. Sina picked Captain America.

At school, we had a parade. All students and some teachers dressed up in costumes.

Then we paraded around the school so everyone could see each other's costumes.
It rained so it was wet. But I had fun!
